I am a senior technical writer with most of my experience in documenting software products for Oracle. I handled a wide range of audiences from end-users to system administrators. I am proficient with a variety of professional publishing tools such as FrameMaker, Acadia, ArborText, AuthorIT, DITA, and a variety of HTML markup languages. At Oracle we used the Agile software development model and project software including Confluence, TortoiseSVN, JIRA, and Apache Subversion.
With Oracle I was a 100% remote worker. The head office is in Redwood Shores, CA with most of my writing team in Ireland (with one in Canada), and most of the engineers and subject matter experts are in India. I have a fully equipped remote office (Linux, MacOS, Windows, and UNIX operating systems, two ISPs, backup generator) and can handle working across multiple time zones.
As a Senior Principal Technical Writer I handled anywhere from three to seven simultaneous projects, each with their own project team and deadlines. I had some permanently assigned projects, and due to my seniority I was the go-to person for rush projects that had “issues” and needed to be completed quickly, accurately, and meet the approval of senior management. In all my time at Oracle, I never missed a deadline.
I have previous experience with multiple other disciplines that have proven useful to my career as a technical writer. I have been a programmer, technical trainer, technical support rep, and photographic engineer. My college degree was in Photographic Processing and Finishing Management, which was a hybrid major consisting of Business Management and Photographic Science, with the intent that graduates from my major would manage photographic processing laboratories. I have found that my Business Management background and science background have been very helpful in understanding the projects to which I have been assigned.
I am available for projects both large and small. I am located in Jupiter, FL but can work remotely for U.S. customers. For rates, resume, writing samples, and more information,
